Hyde No. 5
A wonderful combination of wine and whiskey
The "Hyde No. 5 The Áras Cask Single Grain Irish Whiskey 6 Year Old Burgundy Cask Finish" is a single grain whiskey from Ireland, more precisely from "Hyde Whiskey" in Skibbereen in West Cork. Behind it are the brothers Alan and Conor Hyde with their "Hibernia Distillers" as independent bottlers. Triple distilled in a corn distillery with Column Stills, the raw brandy was first stored for six years in former American bourbon barrels before being transferred to former French Burgundy barrels for another nine months. These very special barrels with their 228 L capacity come from wineries near Dijon on the Côte d'Or. Before they came to Ireland, they stored Pinot Noir, the lush velvety red wine that is pressed from the whole, juicy-aromatic grape. This bottling is also named after Douglas Hyde, the first President of the Republic of Ireland after its independence in 1922, the number 1860 on the label marks the year of douglas Hyde's birth.
This "Hyde No. 5" was also bottled with a strong 46 vol% alcohol content, as usual neither cool filtered nor dyed and limited to 5,000 bottles
Bright orange-red-golden in color, it meets the nose sweet and spicy at the same time, with honey and red summer berries, vanilla and toasted oak wood.
On the palate it is creamy and nutty with fine pudding sweetness and apple peels, red berries and orange blossom honey, including slightly tart grapefruit aromas and cereals, silky oak wood, which accompany this "Hyde No.5 Burgundy Cask Finish" together in a sweet, fruity and spicy finish.
